Personal statement

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Strathclyde within the Civil and Environmental Engineering department. My research is focused on the development of a low-cost electrochemical biosensor for the detection and real-time monitoring of antibiotic residues in milk. I am particularly interested in finding ways to reduce the disposal of contaminated milk and thus limit the spread of antimicrobial resistance in the environment. I am working closely with a partner from dairy industry to ensure the usability and practicality of such a device in the farm field.

My research is supervised by Dr Andrew Ward (University of Strathclyde), Prof Damion Corrigan (University of Strathclyde) and Prof Fiona Henriquez (the University of the West of Scotland).
